Hey, to any of you that are just now getting on, I have to just say one thing; I personally think that if Lese was not daed, (no offense) then those german soldiers would've took Ellen to a place that she would rather not be. I also think that from personal expririence with hearing other peoples stories, thay Mr. and Mrs.Rosen are not safe, because if they don't come back soon, and they don't have any known activity, then they will be found out, and that will be the end of it all.

Why wouldn't sweden join forces with Denmark so they could destroy germany?

Mr.Staley you links were helpful it recaps anything you forgot. With the notes I learned something a little scary. The two soldiers stopped them and figured out Ellens name then they took the scroll with names and figured out she's a jew. Then she doesn't go to school. So the Germans know Ellen is a Jewish Girl that goes to a certain school in Copenhagen that she didn't attend.
Hey Bs17 and mG7 I agree with Mg7 i think that peter hasn't informed the johansens that ellens parents are safe because he dosn't have any way of connecting to them like Mg7 said or maybe he got caught and something did happen to them. I don't know maybe.
bs17 - be careful you don't read too far ahead in the spark notes...it could spoil the story for you. As for Ellen, what would have happened to her if the Germans found her at school and still didn't know where her parents were? Lots to think about here?
jm13 - nice to hear from you! I think your logic (like mg7) is sound that Peter had no way to communicate. Think about what year it is and what technology was available to communicate. They were also in hiding, so did they need to be careful how and who they communicated with?
Didn't Mr.Johansen call his brother in law. That maens they have phones. Then you could just use fake words and communicate like mr.johansen used cigarette instead of Ellen.
Hi Mr.Staley, I think that if the German soldiers found Ellen at school and didn't know where her parents were they would know that she is coming home from school and going to school that someone has to be taking care of her and if it wasn't her parents that was takning care of her then they would probably suspect annemaries family (the Johansens)had been taking care of her because first of all their friends second of all when they went to the Johansens and saw that there was a girl with black hair. they probablly think that they were liening to them.Wait well, the johansens did show them a baby picture of lise who had dark hair also it probabbly wasn't even the same soldiers that saw them coming from school and barging into the house at night so they would not have that much evidents . Well if they did find out that if ellen was hiding out at the johansens ,thejohansens would be in alot of trouble becae 1st I don't think youre aloud to hide someone from the germans especially any jewish religon 2nd the germans would know that they lied to them . To add to mg7, the germans would've probably threatend her into telling them where her parents were if they found her. Then the whole slew of them would go to a concentration camp- maybe even the johansens and peter for helping them.

To answer bs 17's question, I don't think it will be suspicious if Ellen dosen't go to school. Because most likely poeope will know that the Nazi's are taking or took the jews away. It would be even more suspicious if she ddid go to school. I also think mr.Johansen used cigaretes instead of Ellen because the German soldiers could easily be listening to the conversation wothout the Johansens knoeing. another thing, i also agree that they would take her from school (if she went) and maybe bring her to a headquarters and then ship her to a camp. at the headquarters there maybe a general.Maybe, since annemarie said that the people that came to her house were old not young they were generals, and maybe since the headquarter must be located near by one of the geneals may reconize ellen and then take the johansons to the camp too. yes, mb2 true. its not suspicious b/c since the rosens are in hiding, it makes less trouble for the johansens for ellen not to go to school. she would get noticed and people know shes in hiding... the Lise cover is blown like a bomb.
Just like JM13 said, no communication to talk to the Johansens and if the Rosens are all right, also in 1943 telephones weren't around, or were a lot of money. And weren't german soilders on every corner and pretty much everywhere so they would of caught Peter sooner or later asking "what are you talking about? ah8-from reading previous books about this topic I would suspect that Mrs.Hirsch and her family are okay, for now. closing down a jewish shop is the first step she is probley about to be taken to a consitration camp, since that is the second step.
Also, the topic about our last chapter was not really about fishing, so it was kind of dumb that they named it that. They should of named it something like.... "Going to Uncle Heirnick's (PLEASE EXCUSE MY HORRID SPELLING!)

Bs17 i think that there is a chance of Kirsti blowing ellens cover, but it is slim. this is because Kirsti doesn't know what is going on and she will think that it is no big thing that ellen is with her and she will think that she doesn't have to let everyone know that her friend is jewish. just think about it if your friend came over and you don't know why you would just treat them the same, which wouldn't include telling the whole world that she is jewish.

She is five years old after all and she is a "loud mouth." she doesn't know that they, the country, is in the middle of a war where her friend Ellen is in danger. the greatest knowlegde she knows right now is that there are no more pink-frosted cup cakes and that there are German soldeirs around evey corner. in the part we just read yesterday, she almost basically killed Ellen.
When Kristi almost gave Ellen away I thought it was the end for Ellen. I was so glad that Kristi thought befor she spoke for once,I bet Ellen and Annemarie were to.

I think Elln will be safe the almost the whole time. But I think that Elln's parents will not be ok because even if the do lie that there not jewish they still are not aloud to be outsid after dark.
as we read along i feel like the story is geting interesting. now its making me feel like i am in the story. like i am in the chareters place. so i am amaganing that mama is me in that life time and the things their going throught iam going throught it with them.i am scared that they well get couht and tookin away by the soldiers.
This book gets very interesting as you read it. Many puzzle pieces come together as you read each word. The Nazis are the bad guys, the citezens of Denmark are the good guys. Ellen and Annemarie are the main characters. You follow the two girls through one of the most hard times of their lives: the depression. Nazis are everywhere. Jewish people are being taken to "relocations" just because the germans want the jewish religeion to be wiped out, there's nothing wrong with them anyway.
I think that somebody is going to find Ellen and take her to the concentration camp. Also, I think that Annemarie is going to try to save her from the Nazis and the concentration camp.

The next chapter looks very scary, I mean, it is called, There has been a death! I think that maybe Mrs.Rosen will die, or Mr.Rosen. Who knows! Also I think Lise wasent in a car! I think she was walking and someone else who was in a car ran her over or something. Another thing I want to say is that I think that the relashionship between Ellen and Animmerie is very sweet and kind, because they just show so much care for each other. They ack like they really are sisters. I think that the german soliders are being bratz, because they are acting like they own the world, pluse! Why do they have to make everyonse life missirable! I think that it is better because it takes place during a world war! It is also very suspensefull and interesting. It is an action packed novel of two friends! I like it alot!
Hey, if anybody's out there looking at this right now, then i suggest that you think about what is happening in this book,(NTS) and compare and contrast to what has gome on in the real events of the Nazi/cc camp/germans hate jew-ihs stuff and try answering this question: Why in the world did hitler want with these people to throw them in cc camps,gass them, bake them in human-sized ovens, and then declare that he was taking over the world? I mean, well, he WAS kind of si-ko and all, but there has to be something that happened to him in his later years, that made him think the way he did!!HEY< I GOT ON ONLY 5 MINUTES AGO!! Bs17 to anwser your question I think that the johanson may approach a different way of disgising ellen. this time I think that they would try to hide her in the most unsusal and out of sight place posibble. that way they won't have to explain she is Lise johanson without a picture. they could just say they don't know where she is and that they aren't hiding anybody.
bs17- i think that another person will die too, to make the story interseting. My guess is that either peter or one of the adult rosens will die. this is because ellen and the johansons havn't heard from them(for reasons we don't know) and no one knows where they are. this way if they die it will be a shock because of the death, but a relief to know where they are.

I think that if the German soldiers found Ellen at school and didn't know where her parents were they would know that she is coming home from school and going to school that someone has to be taking care of her and if it wasn't her parents that was takning care of her then they would probably suspect annemaries family (the Johansens)had been taking care of her because first of all their friends second of all when they went to the Johansens and saw that there was a girl with black hair. they probablly think that they were liening to them.Wait well, the johansens did show them a baby picture of lise who had dark hair also it probabbly wasn't even the same soldiers that saw them coming from school and barging into the house at night so they would not have that much evidents . Well if they did find out that if ellen was hiding out at the johansens ,thejohansens would be in alot of trouble becae 1st I don't think youre aloud to hide someone from the germans especially any jewish religon

This book gets very interesting as you read it. Many puzzle pieces come together as you read each word. The Nazis are the bad guys, the citezens of Denmark are the good guys. Ellen and Annemarie are the main characters. You follow the two girls through one of the most hard times of their lives: the depression. Nazis are everywhere. Jewish people are being taken to "relocations" just because the germans want the jewish religeion to be wiped out, there's nothing wrong with them anyway.

What will hapen to Ellen if they find her at Annemarie's uncle's house. Ellen has no protection like the picture, they just have to persusade. Do you think Annemarie, her mom, her uncle, and Ellen can persuade the soldiers again.

Bs17 to anwser your question I think that the johanson may approach a different way of disgising ellen. this time I think that they would try to hide her in the most unsusal and out of sight place posibble. that way they won't have to explain she is Lise johanson without a picture. they could just say they don't know where she is and that they aren't hiding anybody.
AnneMarie and Ellen ran then the Germans stopped AnneMarie and Ellen. They wanted to have paper dolls.
bs17- i think that another person will die too, to make the story interseting. My guess is that either peter or one of the adult rosens will die. this is because ellen and the johansons havn't heard from them(for reasons we don't know) and no one knows where they are. this way if they die it will be a shock because of the death, but a relief to know where they are.
By the way does anyone have an idea where the rosens are and where the necklace is?
guys- at the beggining of the story, ellen said "I'mm Ellen Rosen" and annemarie said "im annemarie johansen!" to the soldiers.

bs17- all we know is da rosens r with peter, in hiding. the locket is also in hiding in a "very secret" place.

Hey cc if your still there do you think that the person dying was someone close annemarie but not to close. Like a 3rd cousin or someone you barely now. Because i think peter is already caught he would of called if he was still there
I dont think he is able to call, he is so deep into hiding with the rosens. maybe hes even in sweeden and maybe they dont have real long distance (seperate country)
